Sihanoukville and Koh Rong Saloem (back pt. 3)

as we heard that sihanoukville has become backpacker-infested (which turned out to be more than true, it was actually a major shock for me, and we really wondered whether this is the direction cambodia is going to), we decided to try to move on to an island called koh rong samloem, which is situated quite far away from the coast - we figured out that the further away and the more awful the trip, the less people. it worked out fantastically. after a horrible 2 h boat trip from sihanoukville (and a definetely much worse boat trip back yesterday, rainstorms and terrible waves, and no land in sight, we already imagined the little wooden fisherman's boat plus us and our luggage sinking off the cambodian coast, the 2 couples on the boat with us were pretty seasick and the girls had panic attacks, katja and i were probably the coolest, we thought as long as the crew is smiling, there's still hope).
the island itself was wonderful. the weather changed every hour, but we had a lot of sun, it was nice and warm, we had our own little hut on a deserted beach (except our "resort" of 12 huts, there is only an army base and a fishing village on the other side of the island), we had some animals who shared our hut with us: a huge rat in the bathroom and big fat geckoes in the bedroom, but no mosquitoes and no sandflies.
we will now stay in PP for a few days, before setting off to siem reap / angkor.

well deserved rest with the cambodia daily

and our boat back (we had to swim to board it), and our luggage in the foreground

and this is - 20 min later - the weather we had on our way back. very, very scary boat trip.
